Planned e-waste? Apple AirPods Pro 2
We got a look inside the new Apple Airpods in support of another teardown with our pals at iFixit. X-ray images reveal the details of these tightly packed devices prior to their going under the knife.
Repairability frowny face
Old vs. New
We asked in a recent blog post, “is Apple listening?” By which we meant, is Apple finally listening regarding right to repair and e-waste recyclability. Regarding new iPhone 14 architecture, the answer seems to be leaning yes, but Airpods it’s a definite no. Airpods, their total lack of repairability and roughly 18 months battery life, are all ultimately destined for the landfill. Disappointing, to say the least.

Lack of repairability has been an issue with the Apple Airpods from the beginning. You can see why in this vintage video of our own Dr. Bill Cardoso sitting down with iFixit’s Scott Harvard to review computed tomography (CT) analysis of the early Airpods.
